How To Clean Hair From Shark Vacuum

When was the last time you checked the rollers on your vacuum cleaner? If the answer is "Never", now might be a good time to take a look under there.

Long hair, string and various other things can become tangled on the roller. If left unchecked, this can result in poor performance or even pre-mature vacuum failure.

Today we will be going over how to remove hair from a vacuum cleaner roller…the easy way.

Why it is important to remove tangled hair

Whats the big deal? Why can't I just leave it alone.

Well the simple answer is…You could just leave it alone and sure your vacuum would probably still work to some extent.

The problem however is that as more and more hair starts to build up, it will make your roller harder to turn.

The harder it is for the roller to turn. The more stress is put on your machine.

This means that your vacuum has to work extra hard to spin the brushes which may result in pre-mature failure of the entire machine. Since good vacuums are not cheap, its best to avoid this all together.

How to Remove Hair from Vacuum Cleaner Roller, EASY METHOD

This should go without saying, but. Before you get started be sure to unplug the vacuum to prevent it from accidentally turning on during this process.

The last thing you want to do, is be poking around the brushes with a sharp knife and have them turn on unexpectedly.

Pro-Tip:
Check with your owners manual regarding the proper procedure as this can vary across different models/brands.

On most models you should be able to remove a few screws that will give you complete access to the brush assembly. This is great and all, but will require finding the correct screw driver and some extra time for disassembly.

Here is my easy method using a Shark Navigator Lift-Away. This vacuum has been in use for a number of years and is still running strong, no complaints!

Again, with the vacuum unplugged. Tip it on it's side and use a sharp knife or pair of scissors to gently cut away at the hair.

Work in small sections, pulling out a little bit at a time.

The photo above shows just how much hair was wrapped up around the brushes. Not a pretty sight, but also not a big deal.

All and all, this took only about 5 minutes of time. No screwdriver or disassembly required.

This is all just part of regular maintenance that should be preformed to keep your vacuum running in tip-top shape.

• check all filters and pre-filters, clean/replace regularly
• check airways to ensure nothing is plugged, this may result in poor suction
• check and clean the brush roller
